a study of marital interactions, conflict resolution styles and marital qualitya trend analysis based on the age and duration of marriage

this research project has been conducted to analyze the trend of changes in marital interactions, conflict resolution styles and marital quality based on the marriage age and marriage duration among the married men and women in qazvin city. the research method is descriptive and trend analysis. 302 married people (151 women and 151 men) from five districts of qazvin were selected using the voluntary sampling method. for data collection, the conflict resolution styles inventory (crsi), the revised dyadic adjustment scale (rdas) and the texas tech relationship interaction scale (ttris) were employed. the results revealed no significant linear trend between men and women in terms of the duration of marriage in the interaction dimensions variables except ego-building dimension in the group 1 – 5 years past their marriage, conflict resolution styles and marital quality. the results also indicated a significant linear trend between the group 12 – 19 years past their marriage and the groups 20 – 30 years and 30 - 40 years past their marriage in the components of conflict resolution styles including challenging problems, marital satisfaction, marital cohesion, and a nonlinear trend in the components of marital interactions including salutary recognition, ego-building views, expansion of shared memories and the exciting activities of the groups under study. the interaction patterns and conflict resolution styles among couples as predictors of and factors influencing marital quality are changed over time. those who get married in different ages are affected by such changes in the variables related to marital quality. consideration of these changes can prepare the couples to meet the new situations.
